Ruming mill in Fuschl am See

From Grain to Bread. Fuschler Farmers’s wives back delicious crisp bread for the mill day
on Friday. Refreshments are available.

Rumingmühle in Fuschl am See

Built in 1872, the Ruming Mill is an old water mill which belongs to the Ruming farm. About 25 years ago it was decided to renovate the mill and open it to the public where the process of grinding the grain could be explained and demonstrated. In days gone by the farmers of the village used to bring their grain here to be ground by the miller. Fortunately in the village there was a carpenter who could build a new waterwheel, and slowly the Ruming mill came back to life.

Later it was decided to add a wood-fired bread oven and after a lot of searching an original oven was found and rebuilt in the baking house.

Today farmers wives from the village bake original farmhouse bread here once a week in summer on Tuesdays (June – September) from about 1 p.m.

Obviously the dough process takes a few hours to knead, and rise a couple of times, but at about 5 p.m. the first loaves are ready.

If language is a problem just watch the farmers wives at work, place your order for a loaf (Laib Brot) or half a loaf, go for a little walk into the beautiful Ellmau valley, and pick up your bread on the way home.

Should you have time on Friday afternoon (June – September), perhaps you could look by when the watermill is put into action and the milling demonstration takes place from
3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
