Ski touring in the Fuschlsee region, Salzkammergut

Ski touring has recently become very popular but the dangers are often under-estimated. For this reason a Club has been founded in Faistenau with this theme in mind.

Responsible ski tourers plan detailed tours in advance and check on information about weather conditions and risk of avalanches in the area. Detailed tour planning, avalanche risk analysis and the appropriate procedure of the tour is always the sole responsibility of the ski tourer.

NEW: On the Loibersbacher Höhe in Faistenau you will find the test ski tour training trail – Salzkammergut where you can learn and train for this sport of ski touring. To assist you to learn about planning tours please see www.tourenlehrpfad.at. Furthermore here you can find information about actual dangerous situations, equipment and route maps. Many information boards and guidance in the resort offer clear descriptive information for your tour which will assist you to enjoy this sport with the minimum of risk.

The Fuschlsee region offers perfect possibilities for great ski tours. Many suggestions are to be found in our new “Winter World Map” which is available in our 7 Tourist Offices in the Fuschlsee Region or which you can order free of charge.


Ski tour test trail Salzkammergut in Faistenau

The ski tour trail is the first of its kind in the vicinity of Salzburg and the Salzkammergut. This trail leads via the Streitberg (Keflau car park) along the fairytale path to the Schafbachfeld and further to the Döllereralmen. This area has a particularly lovely landscape and you will be visually informed as to how to react in the event of an avalanche. Detours and turning point possibilities make every tour flexible according to weather conditions, avalanche warnings and the condition and experience of the skier. (Time of tour approx. 2 hrs) Along the route there are also information boards with details of snow, avalanches, nature preservation, hunting and respect for wild animals.

Mountain huts en route: Schafbachalm, Grögneralm (also exit point) and Schlittenhütte.
